As Christmas approached when I was 3 years old, it was explained to me that the purpose of the holiday was to celebrate Jesus’ birthday. I insisted that He get a birthday cake like everyone else I knew. So we started having birthday parties for Jesus, birthday cake included, every Christmas Eve and the tradition remained for many many years. Now that I have my own kids it’s a fun way to help them relate to the reason we celebrate Christmas. And everyone loves birthday cake.
