Birthday Cake for Jesus

As Christmas approached when I was 3 years old, it was explained to me that the purpose of the holiday was to celebrate Jesus’ birthday.  I insisted that He get a birthday cake like everyone else I knew.  So we started having birthday parties for Jesus, birthday cake included,  every Christmas Eve and the tradition remained for many many years.  Now that I have my own kids it’s a fun way to help them relate to the reason we celebrate Christmas.   And everyone loves birthday cake. :)

Happy birthday, Jesus!

And Merry Christmas everyone!

Hot Chocolate on a Stick

This doesn’t entirely fit in the categories of this blog but I had to post this. No cookie, cake or cupcake here.

I was brainstorming ideas for homemade treats to make for my coworkers this holiday season.  I’d considered homemade hot chocolate mix and then came across hot chocolate on a stick on Dainty Chef.  These were fun and easy and didn’t take long to make.  You do need to make them a day ahead though because they take 12 hours to set. One of these days, I’ll finally get around to making homemade marshmallows and then I’ll have to make these again.

Recipe here if you’re interested! :)

Sweet 16 Cake Cookies

Cookies like this take a little (okay, a lot) of time but I didn’t mind because they were so much fun! I just love the idea of creating a cake design on a cookie.  What a fun way to make sweet 16 a little sweeter. :)

Grinch Cookies

I saw this design on a cake and thought my first graders would get a kick out of it.  But then I considered the reality of taking a cake to school with all that green buttercream frosting and came to my senses.  So I made cookies instead. :)

Facebook Announcement Cookies…. Revisited :)

My friend Kim and I were talking about the Facebook announcement cookies I’d made for my friend Patrice’s engagement and she thought that these would be a light hearted (and yummy!) way to share her recent news.

Kim, I wish you the best in this next stage of your life.  The future looks good. :) xoxo

P.S. This is my 100th post! WOW! :)

Blue and Pink Onesie Cookies

These are my basic onesie cookies.  These cookies have been very popular. It’s so fitting since they were the first royal icing cut out cookie design I ever made. I never get tired of making them. I enjoy adding cute designs and initials to them but even the simple button cookies make me happy.

Turkey Cookies

Happy Thanksgiving!

These were a lot of fun to make.  I love my royal icing cookies but it was fun to put these together in such a short amount of time! Just some butter cream frosting, candy corn and candy melts and they were ready in minutes.  Also, these were drop cookies and not roll out which saved a lot of time.  Easy and yummy!
